About IATF 16949 :2016

ISO/TS 16949:2002 was prepared by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.(JAMA), with support from ISO/TC 176. ISO/TS 16949 gives particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2008 for automotive production and relevant services part organizations.

IATF consisting of 9 Vehicle Manufactures (Ford, GM, Daimler, Chrysler, PSA, Renault, Volkswagon, BMW & Fiat) and 5 National Associations (IAOB/USA, ANFIA/Italy, FIEV/France, SMMT/UK and VDA/Germany) controls the process of accrediting Certification Bodies against ISO/TS 16949.

The Goal of ISO/TS 16949 is the development of quality management system that provides for Continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain.

Applicability of ISO/TS 16949

ISO/TS 16949 is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured. Manufacturing means: Process of making or fabricating - a) Production materials, b) Production or Service Parts, c) Assemblies or d) Heat treating, Welding, Painting, Plating or other Finishing Services For Cars, Trucks (Light, Medium & Heavy), Buses, Motorcycles.

Supporting functions, whether on-site or remote (such as design centres, corporate headquarters and distribution centres), form part of the site audit as they support the site, but cannot obtain stand-alone certification to ISO/TS 16949.

ISO/TS 16949 is not applicable for Industrial, Agricultural, Off-Highway (Mining, Forestry, Construction etc.)
